Hervey Seymour Cleveland, who in practical, progressive and profitable manner is following agricultural pursuits in Seward Township [Winnebago County, IL], was born in Hebron, Washington County, NY, 18 Jan 1831. Letter: The information comes from census records, old newspaper accounts, county histories, cemetary records, land deeds, and the like. Edwin SEARLS (youngest son) and my great-grandfather Daniel J. Searls (oldest son) were sons of Gilbert Searls and Elizabeth HALSTEAD. Both parents were born in New York but moved to Hinckley, Ohio in 1834 and to Winnebago County, Seward Township Illinois (near Pecatonica) in 1857. Gilbert built a frame house in Illinois (which is still being lived in - I have seen and photographed it), and then he died abruptly at age 49 in 1860. My great-grandfather took over the farm, helping to raise his youngest brother Edwin. Elizabeth died in 1907. William SCOTT lived at Seward, Winnebago County, Illinois d. Mar 25, 1857. Wife Hannah; children: Charles Oliver, 11 years; Walter Finney, 8 years; Herschell Winfield, 6 years; Jonathan Woodruff, 4 years; Philander Copeland, 3 years; - brother George Scott, St. Thomas, yeoman; uncle by marriage James Hill, Yarmouth, yeoman - James Hill and George Scott were executors and guardians to the children - died intestate Awesome Seward, IL family history page.
